You're not a real photographer until you shoot in 1) RAW format; 2) Manual mode. That is all.
You're not a real photographer until you shoot on film.
Wait, no, not until you shoot on transparency film.
Wait, no - wrong again.
You're not a real photographer until you shoot on large format daguerreotype plates developed using chemicals distilled & mixed in what was once your family's bathroom.
If you didn't make the developing trays at pottery class then you're really just a hobbyist though.
@Woolies: haha, nice. If you're not using a pinhole camera ....
What good is RAW capture if your DLSR doesn’t have a Depth of Field preview button
Most entry level models don’t
Anyone one for a game of selective focus?
I’ll grab my film camera
I agree. Shoot on reversal film the latitude is the same as Digital on the +3, but the spray and pray technique is limited to $ and rolls.
@Harry I have no idea what you're talking about. You mean you don't know how to achieve depth of field on a digital camera? Why do you need a button to show you what you can achieve by knowing how to photograph? Using film doesn't cure that, knowing what you're doing does.
Paul, I may have got a little off topic...and I rant!
It means film cameras have all the controls. So RAW/Manual shooting in digital is a moot point.... it might not make you a "real photographer"
The Rant:
The problem is...A whole generation of photographers are growing up with a flood of entry level DSLRs, that don't have the basic controls of the photographer. I hate to see this.
I asked a major camera rep why? And he said "a DOF preview button/lever is too expensive for the entry level DSLR, besides no one knows what that means anymore." WTF?
My entry level DSLR has the DOF preview button (a Rare one) but there is no scale on the lens.
I hope that one day I can afford a big, fat digital camera. And I hope like hell, it gives me all the controls of my film camera. And throw in a film emulator for Kodachrome...OK?
