Hurray, You have a DSLR camera! (I think my cat does too) But this does not make you a photographer.
I have a dslr and I do not consider myself a photographer. I like them better then the point and shoot cameras. So what should I use and how does one become a photographer?
Obviously this is "tongue in cheek". You can have any camera you want. And if you aren't earning an income from photography, then you're not (necessarily) a photographer. How do you become one? How does one become anything - practice, knowledge, education, talent. Don't overlook talent; there's more to photography than just technically knowing how to do something, it's also a form of art.
If you take photographs, that makes you are photographer. If you earning an income from photography, that makes you a professional photographer.
If you take pictures, you have a camera. If you make some kind of income off your photography then your an amateur photographer. If your main source of income is through selling your pictures then you are a professional photographer. If you take 203894720349830 pictures of converse shoes and pieces of paper with love quotes written on them, your a thirteen year old girl with an over priced camera.
